Figure skating Slutskaya is a champion, Volchkova is the hero of the day

The European champion Irina Slutskaya won the fifth stage of Grand Prix series - Cup of Russia tournament. But the brightest moment of the day was Viktoria Volchkova's performance, who went through her free dance perfectly and got second place, SE-Internet correspondent Andrey SIMONENKO reports.

By the 3 p.m. the spectators in the Ledovy palace in St. Petersburg weren't numerous. Those who were late haven't lost much: the first two sportswomen, Ukrainian Galina Manjachenko and Japanese Kanako Takahasi haven't pleased neither themselves nor judges or spectators. On the contrary, the Canadian sportswoman Jennifer Robertson made a good performance and got good results.

Irina Slutskaya was the first in the leader's group. And again she didn't show her best as in the short program and her skating was a bit heavy. Nevertheless her marks were good - 5.5 - 5.7 for technique and 5.7 - 5.9 - artistic ones. Thus the judges left reserve for other skaters, but they made to feel that they won't give anybody a chance to use it.

She didn't manage to repeat her yesterday's bright show, and Elena Lyashenko even surrendered to the Canadian. Victoria Volchkova was the last to take the ice. As a result the last was not the least. Only she managed to do the three-jump cascade without falling, as it is so common. The reward was the second place in the tournament. Unfortunately this result will not help her to enter the Grand Prix final.
