Judo Japan wins Russian President’s Cup

National team of Japan defeated Korea (6:1) in the final match and won the international championship Russian President's Cup in Novokuznetsk. The event is already called an unofficial world team championship, SE-Internet correspondent Boris TITOV reports.

In spite of great difference in score the match was very heating. Referees had to appoint overtime three times. But Japanese fighters wanted to avenge for the last time when they got only the third place, so they won in all the three overtimes.

Russian President's Cup was awarded by the president's representative in Siberian federal district Leonid Drachevsky. When asked about the Russia's third place he said that the sport is unpredictable, and expressed hope that Russia wins next time. This time we made a great sport festival for Siberians, said Drachevsky.

Between semifinals and finals Ledovy palace "Metallurg" held press-conference of three times Olympic champion, Russian Duma delegate Alexander Karelin. He appreciated the organization of the championship and said that he was intending to hold international tournament in Greco-Roman wrestling in Novokuznetsk this summer. The tournament will bear Karelin's name.

Results: 1. Japan. 2. Korea. 3-4 RUSSIA-1 (Javara-Neva) and France. 5-8 Iran, Ukraine, Romania and Kazakhstan. 9-10. RUSSIA-2 (Siberia) and Belorussia.
